European Union Cancels Antidumping Duties On Carbamide From Ukraine

21.03.2008

The European Union has canceled its antidumping duties on carbamide imported from Ukraine.

The European Union announced this in a statement, a text of which Ukrainian News obtained.

The decision to cancel the duty was made on March 17 in accordance with the European Council of Ministers resolution No. 240/2008.

According to information from the Economics Ministry, this decision will come into effect on March 19.

The decision to cancel the antidumping duties was based on the result of a review that started in December 2006 and aimed at determining whether continuation of the relevant antidumping measures was appropriate.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, carbamide exports from Ukraine fell by 1.95% or 4,309 tons to 216,778 tons in January 2008, compared with January 2007.

Turkey was the main importer of Ukrainian carbamide in January (it accounted for 67.8% of Ukraine's total exports).

In 2007, carbamide exports fell by 4.6% or 164,421 tons to 3,396,258 tons worth USD 915.518 million compared with 3,560,679 tons worth USD 747.887 million in 2006.

The following Ukrainian enterprises produce and export carbamide: the Styrol concern (Horlivka), Azot (Cherkasy), Azot (Siverskodonetsk), DniproAzot (Dniprodzerzhynsk, Dnipropetrovsk region), and the Odesa portside factory.
