Baloha Calls For Resignation Of Government Ministers Responsible For Economy

16.04.2008

The Presidential Secretariat's head Viktor Baloha has called on the government ministers responsible for the national economy to resign because of their low professional qualification.

The presidential press service announced this in a statement.

"The ministers that have failed to cope with the negative trends, failed to propose quick, market instruments for responding should leave their posts," the press service quoted Baloha as saying.

Baloha believes that Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's Cabinet of Ministers bears political responsibility for the economic problems that the country encountered in the first quarter of 2008.

According to Baloha, the current government has made economic mistakes every month: gas debts in January, a crisis in the area of gas relations with Russia in February, and an increase in the rate of inflation in March.

"The reaction of the Cabinet of Ministers to the negative economic trends was slow. Probably under the influence of Tymoshenko's calming reports... The government did not promptly see the signs of coming economic problems and did not take measures to prevent them," Baloha said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the ruling coalition discussed the possibility of recommending that President Viktor Yuschenko dismiss Baloha on Monday.

Baloha recently accused Tymoshenko of deliberately provoking a conflict with Yuschenko.

Tymoshenko has expressed confidence that the problem of rising inflation will be solved before October.
